    This document provides NASA policy in regards to accessibility of electronic and information technology in the area of Internet and Intranet Web pages, as required by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). Detailed requirements for accessibility have been established by the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board (Access Board) at 36 CFR Part 1194. (June 19, 2001)

  • Section 508 - Final Rule, issued by U.S. Access Board, for "Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards," (36 CFR Part 1194) for Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (as amended by P.L. 105-220 Sec. 508).

  • Technical Assistance Guide to the Standards for Electronic and Information Technology- The purpose of this technical assistance document is to ensure successful implementation of section 508. These materials are designed to allow individuals and organizations to understand how to design, develop, and procure EIT to meet the compliance requirements to ensure the accessible use of Federal EIT. This document is divided into sections and parallels the Final Rule in structure.

  • Procurement Information Circular 05-01:

PURPOSE:  To provide updated guidance on implementation of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; specifically, to reflect the expiration of the micropurchase exemption on April 1, 2005.

BACKGROUND:

   1.  Procurement Information Circular (PIC) 01-13 provided guidance on the implementation of Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 97-27, Electronic and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility.  The provisions of this FAC were subsequently implemented under FAR Part 39.2, Electronic & Information Technology.

   2.  An interim FAR rule, published in the Federal Register on October 5, 2004, extended the Section 508 micropurchase exemption from October 1, 2004 to April 1, 2005.
